Getting Started with CineForm CineDDR

Here’s everything you need to know to start using CineForm’s CineDDR software.

1) System Requirements

Make sure your system meets the system requirements shown on the CineDDR Product Page. Please note that CineDDR only supports the AJA cards listed on the system requirements page. It does not support Blackmagic cards.

2) JAVA

Your system must be running the latest version of Java from Sun Microsystems.

3) Deck Control (if you are not using Deck Control, skip to step 4)

CineDDR can be used for Device Control and as a Device Emulator. Device control lets you control an External VTR and Device Emulation lets an external device control CineDDR as though it were a VTR. In both cases, you will need to use the RS-422 protocol to connect to your external devices. To achieve this, you have two options. You can connect using the RS-232 Serial port on the back of your computer or you can use a Drastic Quad RS-422 card from Drastic Technologies.

Using the RS-232 Serial Port on the back of the Computer

To connect to your external device using the serial port on the back of the computer, you will need a 9-pin to 9-pin serial cable and an RS-232 to RS-422 Converter from B&B Electronics. You can order those here. For Device Emulation, you will also need an RS-422 NULL converter (also available from B&B Electronics).

Alternatively, you can make your own RS-232 to RS-422 cable and RS-422 NULL cable using this wiring diagram by Drastic Technologies.

Using the Drastic Quad RS-422 Adapter from Drastic Technologies

Install the Drastic Quad RS-422 Adapter using the instructions found here.

4) Software Installation

Download and install the latest version of the CineDDR software from the CineForm Downloads page.

5) Read the Manual

Once it is installed, read the User’s Manual which installs in the CineDDR folder in the Windows Start menu. This will give you an overview of the interface and features of the CineDDR software.

Following is a link to the CineDDR manual outside the installer: http://www.cineform.com/pdfs/CineDDR%20Manual.pdf
